A unique volunteer role involves leading older adults in an eight-session program, the Sonoma County Council on Aging’s “A Matter of Balance.” The program addresses physical and mental risks and hazards for falls to build strength and confidence. Between 50 and 75 volunteers are sought to help with everything from packet pick up and registration to course monitoring for the race, which takes place in Rohnert Park on April 29. Senior Advocacy Services’ long-term care ombudsman program is looking for volunteers who are passionate problem solvers and are eager to empower vulnerable seniors living in care homes. Ombudsmen provide a voice for vulnerable seniors who may be victims of abuse or neglect. Classes begin March 16. The homeowner acts as caregiver until the fawns reach 4 months old, when they are freed to live in a natural habitat. Open your home and heart to an animal in need. The Humane Society of Sonoma County desperately seeks foster parents who can bottle feed baby kittens until they’re able to transition to solid foods, provide a place for sick animals to recover, or just give stressed animals a break from the shelter. Lengths of stay vary from overnight to a couple of months.

Santa Rosa’s Welfare League Thrift Shop seeks volunteers for its Christmas Unlimited program, which provides gifts to children who might otherwise receive little during the holidays. Volunteers can sign up for 3-hour time slots during gift distributions on Dec. 11-13. They’ll get to greet parents or show them to the gift areas. Evening volunteers are especially needed.

The Paws for Love Foundation needs help with its 20th anniversary fundraising gala on Feb. 9. The Santa Rosa nonprofit provides funding to shelters, rescue groups and individuals caring for abused and abandoned pets in the North Bay and beyond.

Donor project assistance needed

Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County seeks assistance with a short-term project to improve its donor acknowledgment system. A volunteer familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel is needed to help organize data to transfer to a new system and generate letters.
