College students and adults are needed to read and do activities with kids in Santa Rosa from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, until June. They should be comfortable reading in English and Spanish. Food prep volunteers needed

The Council on Aging, based in Santa Rosa, seeks experienced food preparation volunteers to assist cooks in its large commercial kitchen. Tasks include chopping, measuring and packaging food for transport.

Meals on Wheels seeks drivers

Meals on Wheels needs drivers Monday through Friday in Santa Rosa. Drivers must use their own vehicle to deliver lunches to homebound seniors. Shifts run from 9:45 a.m. to noon and noon to 2:30 p.m. Mileage reimbursement is allowed. Candidates must be in good physical health, able to lift 25 pounds and willing to commit to a shift one day a week. A background check is required.

Cancer Support Volunteers Needed in Sonoma

Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation’s cancer support program, Cancer Support Sonoma, is looking for volunteers. According to Program Director Pam Koppel, volunteers help provide a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for the clinic, including set-up for the day, checking patients in-and-out, changing linens between sessions, helping with administrative tasks and closing at the end of the day.

Volunteer shifts are Tuesday 9:30 am – 1:00 pm or 1:00 pm till 5:00 pm and Friday from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm or 12:30 till 4:00pm. Shifts can be once every week or every other week. Cancer Support Sonoma is operated by the Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation in partnership with the North Bay Cancer Alliance. It opened last year within Sonoma Valley Hospital to provide complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage, to help ease the symptoms frequently associated with conventional cancer treatment.

The program covers its costs through donations and grants, and utilizes a sliding scale fee for patients. Services are made as accessible as possible in order to serve all who need them, and no one is turned away because of inability to pay.

The Community Child Care Council, known as 4Cs, seeks enthusiastic gardeners to work with 3- to 5-year-olds from low-income families, educating them about nutrition and helping plant and maintain gardens at subsidized preschools. Volunteers plan the gardens, seek donations and work with the teachers.

Sonoma County Human Services seeks volunteers to process applications for grants from the Season of Sharing Fund. Excel and other database experience is a plus. Volunteers should be able to type, read and speak English fluently, as well as work independently, understand and determine if applicants meet award eligibility criteria.
