Petaluma Wetlands Alliance needs volunteer docents. Docents serve in a number of ways, including teaching 3rd graders about wetlands and habitats, leading bird walks, restoring the habitats, conducting research on birds and other wetlands animals. To become a docent, volunteers participate in a training program and then observe other docents. Training starts Jan. 12, 2017, continuing for seven consecutive Thursday mornings. During the winter months, Social Advocates for Youth houses more youth than usual, and your help is needed to feed them! This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, or groups to provide direct service to youth. Community members are needed to make and deliver dinners for 20 people every night until March 31. Prepare your community for disaster

The Pillowcase Project is a preparedness program for grades 3-5 that teaches students about disaster safety skills, local hazards and coping skills. Red Cross volunteers lead students through a “learn, practice, share” framework to engage them in disaster preparedness. Teach children about the Laguna de Santa Rosa

The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation is looking for volunteers to join its Laguna Education Team. The education team brings programming to more than 1,500 elementary school students every year. Volunteers must go through a 10-week training course, where they learn about the Laguna during in-class presentations, hands-on activities and field trips that foster Laguna sense of place. Trainees also learn how to teach all the Learning Laguna activities and develop practical skills for working with students both in the classroom and in the field. Training runs March 13-15, and orientation is scheduled for February.
